Many years ago I set up a project to translate the work into english. since that time the group has translated each edition that’s come out. A few people would transcribe, others would translate and I would edit them into English pages and publish online. Read more about Ubunchu here.

Seotch-san (the author) has just released two new editions in Japanese and I’m busy editing pages, and others are busy transcribing and translating in the google group. We could do with some help doing either translation or transcription of the Japanese intot he google spreadsheets. Information is available here if you can help us.

Also needed are two artworks which go on the Stop pages, to explain to English readers how to read Manga right to left instead of the western left to right. In the last edition I personally did the work taking over from the fabulous ~c-quel who did all the previous editions. You can see the past stop/go pages here.

So if you’d like to be involved in drawing some Manga art for Ubuntu, this is your opportunity. The work needs to be related to the chapter it’ll go into, and either be vector svg or high resolution raster png file format. Please comment below to get involved!

P.S. These are the last two chapters of Ubunchu, after this, I don’t think there will be any more.

Anime Boston: First Goal Reached http://doctormo.org/2009/12/15/anime-boston-first-goal-reached/ Wed, 16 Dec 2009 04:59:45 +0000 http://doctormo.wordpress.com/?p=1662 I want to thank everyone who’s donated to our Anime Boston event. This first milestone means that the Massachusetts LoCo team are guaranteed now to attend the event in force, have our own table and be able to promote Ubuntu and Free and Open Source Software to everyone that comes. Thank you everyone!

The next goal is to keep on raising money to be able to buy print outs of all the information we want to communicate with attendees. So if you’ve not yet, please do consider sending $10 to our marketing campaign, after all it’s not often that we get to do marketing events of this size in the usa and we’d love to have print outs of the Ubunchu Manga to give out.

If you’ve also got good ideas for the kinds of material we should be giving out, let us know. Comments and emails are very welcome. We want to make this awesome event really go down with the very best marketing materials we have.

Pondering at the Window http://doctormo.org/2009/12/13/pondering-at-the-window/ Mon, 14 Dec 2009 02:02:49 +0000 http://doctormo.wordpress.com/?p=1657 This is a commission I got done by a new artist, ~Miayah over on deviantArt, it’s an Ubunchu based image based in the manga style. Akane’s looking out the window thinking about the work that she’s doing on her Ubuntu based computer. (or Debian)

It’s a lovely work and is downloadable in SVG and rendered in inkscape. Licensed under Creative Commons Attribution Share Alike.

More Respectable Risa http://doctormo.org/2009/12/04/more-respectable-risa/ Sat, 05 Dec 2009 01:28:33 +0000 http://doctormo.wordpress.com/?p=1619 I’ve been plodding through the graphics for the “How to Ask Smart Questions” guide, which coincidentally will help people ask questions with the same quality that Akane does in chapter 03 of Ubunchu. Some of the graphics I’ve been playing with are for illustrating various parts of the guide and so I asked my good acquaintance C-Quel to draw me up a quick SVG image of Risa to help us through.

The problem was I feel, was that the style of the guide I wanted to make was more conservative than C-Quel’s style, I also wanted to make sure I wasn’t suggesting that only women in dresses have problems. So I set about modifying the SVG to produce some more professional, slightly more western eyes and clothes.

Your thoughts, dear reader?

Ubunchu Chapter 03 is here! http://doctormo.org/2009/12/02/ubunchu-chapter-03-is-here/ Wed, 02 Dec 2009 17:07:55 +0000 http://doctormo.wordpress.com/?p=1607 Great news, we’ve finished work on translating the excellent Chapter 03 of the Ubunchu Manga.

This chapter tells the story of our system admin club members negotiating their way through the Ubuntu Forums, will they find geeks replaying with RTFM posts or will they find a kinder and more helpful community. And why has Akane, our skilled hacker, never posted to a forum before?

You’ll have to download it to find out!
